Spring finally arrived after a long winter of prepping and working! We were so excited to do this again, after all third time is a charm right? Loaded the truck and off we went.
The camp was in much better shape this spring after rodent-proofing a bit last fall. Lots of peppermint and cinnamon extract-loaded cotton balls. Were there issues? Yes, but not like the seasons before. This time it only took an hour to disinfect, sweep, and make up beds. While I was doing all that, my best friend was unloading the truck and getting stuff ready to make a fire. We were ready for our favorite place to cook, over an open fire. Plus it was a tad bit chillier than three hours south of us. Lots of sweatshirts, hats, gloves, boots, and our Carhartt jackets to keep us warm while we played in the dirt outside tomorrow. Our other second best thing to do!
There wasn’t much we could do outside as it was still pretty chilly and wet! We picked up all the winter debris and raked the dry spots. I started picking out trees to take down so we could have more sunlight. During this adventure, I swear that I found every wet spot and sunk to my knees in mud! Well, okay, not my knees, but on several occasions, I needed help getting unstuck. Thankfully, I had enough common sense not to bring my second foot into the mess and kept it on the part of the ground that wasn’t soup! He had lots of laughs watching me struggle and trust me being vertically challenged once I sank there was no leverage to get my self out in some of those mud soup areas.
Laughter is the best medicine they say and boy did we laugh! By the time Sunday came the floors inside were not any cleaner than when we arrived. Between us and the pups mud was everywhere. As usual we spent our Sunday am eating camp breakfast fritatta’s (all the left overs from the weekend mixed in with scrambled eggs, cheese and spices), sweeping (a lot of sweeping), shaking out the dirt from the cushions, packing up the truck with trash to take home and making our list for the next weekend.
The weather up here changes on a dime. one minute it is bright and sunny the next we have rain or snow. This time we woke up to an inch of snow and still snowing. Our trip home was long, but nonetheless, we had a great time opening up and getting ready for the next trip.
As always, stay positive, stay focused, and remember with challenge comes change and change is good!
